It is essential to plan for the future early on, as failing
to do so can result in unrealized dreams. Each person is born with unique
talents, which they should utilize for their welfare and happiness. While
some aspire to make money or attain fame, others seek to serve society. I
have chosen to become a social worker and dedicate my life to helping the
poor, suffering, and needy.
My decision to become a social worker did not happen suddenly. It was the
result of reading about the lives of great men and women who dedicated
themselves to serving the suffering. I have learned from Gautama Buddha,
Mother Teresa, Father Damien, Dr. Schweitzer, and Gandhi, who served others
tirelessly. Their selflessness and dedication inspired me to follow in their
footsteps. After all, what is the point of being a human being if we cannot
help our fellow beings?
To become a social worker requires mental preparation and training. As the
saying goes, "charity begins at home," so I started by helping my family and
neighbors in any way possible. I also started to love the elderly, visit
slum areas, and talk to people about their difficulties. I began collecting
my old clothes and distributing them to the poor. It was not just about what
I did but also how I reacted. I erased my self-centeredness and was ready to
serve.
To become a social worker, I studied books on sociology and got in touch
with various societies doing social work. I realized that theory alone was
not enough, and I needed to gain practical experience. For instance, the Red
Cross Society does commendable work in both peace and war, and other
voluntary organizations do social work as well.
There are obstacles in becoming a social worker. My parents did not approve
of my career choice because it did not bring money or fame. Life as a social
worker can be challenging, and until one's work is recognized, they may not
be regarded as genuine or appreciated. Even friends may scoff at the notion,
and society itself may be suspicious until one's bona fides are proved.
Despite the challenges, I have made up my mind to become a social worker. I
want to serve society and make a difference in the lives of the poor,
suffering, and needy. I am determined to overcome the obstacles and continue
following in the footsteps of those great men and women who dedicated their
lives to serving others. |
