The Importance of Protecting Our Only Earth |
|
A few days ago, I read an article called "There is Only One Earth," which deeply
moved me.
The vast universe is limitless, and Earth is just a tiny part of the sparkling
stars in the universe. It is both lovely and fragile, like a small boat floating
in the vast universe.
Our Earth is very beautiful. It has rich mineral resources and a suitable
atmosphere for human habitation. However, if we do not protect it, it will not
become our paradise but will be like an exploding balloon, shattered into
pieces.
Take the mineral resources on Earth as an example. They are not God's gift but
have evolved gradually through geological changes over millions of years. But
now we must conserve these resources because at the current rate of mineral
extraction, Earth's iron will only last for 35 years, oil for 80 years, and gold
for only 18 years. By then, if we want to make a car, sorry, we've run out of
iron; if we want to build a spaceship, sorry, we've run out of gold, we won't be
able to do anything... Another example is our water resources on Earth. They
were originally recyclable and purifiable. However, we have not paid attention
to protecting the ecological environment and have discharged factory wastewater
directly into rivers, wasting our scarce water resources on Earth.
Some people say, "Isn't the universe vast? When resources are depleted on our
Earth, why don't we just move to another planet?" Scientists have proven that
there is no planet within 400 trillion kilometers centered on Earth that is
suitable for human habitation.
There is only one Earth, and if we destroy it, we have nowhere else to go. Let's
take action to protect our only home, where we thrive and survive. |
