My Experience with Orchids |
|
A few months ago, my dad bought me an orchid and placed it in my bedroom.
Following his instructions, I placed the orchid on the windowsill and surrounded
it with small stones.
I watered the orchid once a week and wiped its leaves. After two weeks, a short
stem grew amidst its lush green leaves. My dad said it would bloom in another
two weeks or so. He also mentioned that orchids have a long flowering period,
with elegant and delicate colors.
As time went by, I noticed that the edges of the orchid's leaves were turning
yellow, the stem wasn't growing taller, and there was no sign of blossoming. I
felt disappointed and thought maybe I watered it too much. So, I watered it once
every two weeks. However, the orchid continued to wither, and I even noticed a
few holes on its leaves and small black bugs in the pot. I decided to find out
why the orchid was wilting.
I searched the internet and found out that orchids prefer a cool environment and
dislike high temperatures. They require a temperature range of 15-35 degrees
Celsius, with a maximum of 30-35 degrees Celsius. In autumn, when the air is
drier, orchids should be watered every two to three days to keep the soil moist.
If they are infested with insects, they should be treated promptly.
Oh, I finally understood. Taking care of flowers requires knowledge and skills.
In our northern region, October brings cold weather, so we started using heating
systems earlier. The radiator in my bedroom was right under the windowsill,
making the room too warm for the orchid. Moreover, I didn't water it enough, and
it was infested with bugs, which caused it to wither. Orchids have strict
requirements for their living environment, such as sunlight, water, temperature,
and humidity. Now that I know the reason, I've learned my lesson. I'll make sure
to take good care of my orchids and help them bloom with beautiful smiles. |
