The Resilient Cactus: A Plant That Defies the Odds |
|
The cactus is a type of herbaceous plant. Its leaves are thick and oval-shaped,
resembling small handprints. On the dark green leaves, there are thin and long
spines that are very sharp. You must be careful not to get pricked by them. The
cactus is incredibly resilient. My dad told me that if you break off a piece of
cactus leaf and carefully place it into the soil, it will quickly grow roots and
flourish. To prove the cactus's tenacity and my dad's words, I broke off the
largest leaf and planted it in another pot. Sure enough, the leaf survived and
even grew a small new leaf on top.
Moreover, the cactus is very drought-resistant. The long spines on its leaves
are said to reduce water evaporation. I remember one summer when my family was
away for more than a week, and we returned to find the balcony plants looking
wilted and sad, some even bending over. But the cactus stood tall and full of
vitality, as if saying to the other plants, "Cheer up, comrades! Persistence is
victory!"
The cactus is also a natural air purifier. It can clean various harmful gases in
the house and release oxygen, allowing me to breathe fresh air every day. The
cactus requires very little from humans—just a handful of soil and a ray of
sunshine—and it can thrive. Although the cactus cannot compare to the delicate
and elegant hibiscus or the noble and graceful narcissus, it always appears so
resilient in my eyes. That's why it is also noble. |
