Nighttime Rescue: A Mysterious Adventure

The evening was dark and dreary, with the wind howling and thunder echoing in the distance. Despite the lack of rain, there was an eerie feeling in the air. The group of picnickers, staying in an isolated seaside resort with only one hotel building for miles around, were seeking a peaceful night's rest. However, there was a nagging suspicion that something extraordinary was about to occur.

Suddenly, the phone rang, shattering the calm. A low, husky voice on the other end informed one of the members of the party that someone was in grave danger at an old castle five miles away. The realization dawned that a little cousin was missing. The line went dead, leaving many questions unanswered.

No one was keen to venture out into the dark and lonely night, making it difficult to form a search party. Finally, one young man agreed to accompany the narrator, and they set out in an old, battered car to investigate.

The darkness and unfamiliar sounds made the journey frightening. They were convinced that ghosts were lurking around every corner. Suddenly, they heard a scream, and the car screeched to a halt. As they exited the vehicle to investigate, they discovered a black cat lying dead in the middle of the road, which was particularly unsettling as they had not seen it before. The scream remained unexplained.

Despite the uncertainty, they continued to the castle, knowing it was where the young cousin must be. They arrived at the strong iron gates, where they found the boy shivering and unconscious at the castle's base. Wrapping him in blankets, they made their way back to the hotel, thankful that they did not need to enter the dark castle.

The mystery remained unsolved. How did the little cousin end up in the castle, and who had made the phone call? What about the scream they heard? The adventure was baffling, but they were grateful that it ended well.
