After Mr Moore had taken a seat, Mr Evans began, "Mr Moore, I called you here for a talk because your son, Timothy, has been doing badly in one of his subjects. His History teacher complained that Timothy never pays any attention during his history lessons. Since the beginning of the term, he has not passed a single History test."

"I understand your point, sir," said Mr Moore. "I apologize for my son's behaviour. You see, my family has never been very good at History. I think you can't really blame the boy if you ask him questions about events that happened long before he was born."

"I see," said the Principal. "But we do hope that you will be able to advise Timothy to put in a lot more effort in his work. Why, he couldn't even answer some of the easier history questions. For example he doesn't know even the year Sir Stamford Raffles died!"

"I'm sorry to hear that," said Mr Moore politely. "We didn't even know that Sir Stamford Raffles was sick."
