A teenage girl named June seems to have a balanced social life by hanging out
with her best friend and attending parties. Her mother, following the death of
her husband due to a brain tumor, returns to dating a man named Kevin. June
plans a wild week of partying while waiting for her mother to leave on vacation
with Kevin.
When June goes to pick up her mother from the airport, her mother never
arrives, leading to an intense investigation by June to find her missing mother.
The film "Missing" is a standalone sequel to "Searching," with a similar
storyline but a shift in the point-of-view.
The filmmakers convey a bombardment of information and exposition through the
characters' easy accessibility to emails, videos, news, camera footage, etc.,
with breakneck pacing and sharp editing. The performances are credible, with
Storm Reid standing out in the lead role.
However, the film has moments of blatant sentimentality and plot
contrivances that detract from the
plausibility of the situation. Overall, "Missing" is another strong example of
ingenuity in storytelling, making a well-worn narrative feel new again. |
