Stepping Forward Through Memories |
|
On a blazing summer day, cicadas droned on unconsciously beneath a sky once
bright but now cloaked in a soft grey veil. The wind swept by, warm and
restless, carrying with it an inexplicable sadness that seemed to linger in the
air.
As our friendships drew to a close, unlike the mournful elegy in Lin Haiyin’s
*Memories of South City*, we didn’t sing a sorrowful song to mark the end of our
elementary school days. Instead, we captured our vibrant childhood through
slideshows—frozen moments of eager, joyful faces brimming with the hope of
growing up. Like tadpoles ready to become frogs, we stood at the threshold of
change, surrounded by peers equally eager to mature and embrace the promising
future ahead.
That day, under a gentle drizzle, the memory feels hazy—the sky was grey, and
the earth beneath us was damp. Was it the heavens sighing over six years of
friendship? Despite the wet ground, we kept moving forward. Each drop of rain
seemed to mirror our precious memories, fragile and sacred, and we hesitated to
tread on them. Yet we stepped on, because ahead lay the future we had long
awaited. We lingered in reminiscence, but in the end, those happy moments became
dust beneath our feet—only their lingering scent remained in our hearts.
Nostalgia is hard to release because it carries the fear that beauty may vanish.
But now, that fragrance stays alive within each of us. We must walk
onward—honoring the past but not bound by it—carrying those memories deep inside
as we journey toward what lies ahead. Letting go of sadness and nostalgia fuels
our progress, empowering us to keep moving toward a brighter tomorrow.
Forever etched in our hearts are the faces of teachers and classmates, smiling
through tears at our graduation—reluctant to part, yet brave enough to embrace
what comes next. |
