The Hazards of Excessive Internet Use and the Importance of Setting Limits

During a recent workshop by Ukub books on managing internet use, I learned about the dangers of excessive internet use, especially for young people. With the ubiquity of mobile phones and easy access to the internet, it's easy to lose track of time spent online and fall into addictive behaviors.

One of the most significant risks of constant internet use is the lack of parental supervision. With mobile phones, nobody is watching over us when we use the internet, so it's up to us to ensure that we don't put ourselves or others in danger. Checking social media while walking or driving can be hazardous, as we can become distracted and not pay attention to our surroundings.

Another concern is the impact on social behavior. Overreliance on social media can lead to a loss of face-to-face interaction and a decline in social skills. Additionally, the constant barrage of notifications and messages can disrupt sleep and lead to poor academic performance.

Internet addiction is a real phenomenon and has been found to be the third most addictive thing on earth after drugs and alcohol. We must recognize the dangers of excessive internet use and take steps to regulate ourselves. This means setting rules for ourselves, such as not checking our phones while walking, turning off devices before bed, and limiting social media use to predetermined intervals.

In conclusion, while the internet can be a valuable tool, it's important to recognize the hazards of excessive use and set limits to ensure that we use it in a healthy and balanced way.
