Anticipation for Chinese New Year |
|
Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival, is a highly anticipated time of
the year. It is a time when families come together to celebrate, feast and honor
their ancestors. The excitement for this festival can be felt in every corner of
the country.
The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Chinese New Year is the
delicious tangyuan, which are glutinous rice balls filled with sweet or savory
fillings. Families gather together to make these round, plump treats. Once they
are boiled, they float in the pot and are ready to be enjoyed. The sweet filling
oozes out with each bite, making it a favorite treat for all ages.
Another highlight of the Chinese New Year celebration is the fireworks. The
night of the Spring Festival Gala, just after midnight, the sky lights up with a
myriad of colors and sounds as people set off fireworks to welcome in the new
year. It's a sight to behold as people compete to see who can light the biggest
and most spectacular fireworks.
Family visits, or bai nian, is another important aspect of the festival. During
Chinese New Year, families visit each other to exchange greetings and gifts.
Children look forward to these visits as they usually receive red envelopes
filled with money. It's a time of joy and happiness as families come together to
share stories and catch up with each other.
As the festival draws to a close, there is a sense of reluctance to let it go.
People wish that the festival could last longer, but time moves on and life goes
back to normal. Nevertheless, the memories of this special time of the year will
always be cherished, and people eagerly look forward to the next year's
celebrations. |
