The Harmful Obstacle of Tradition to Progress

Traditions are an integral part of cultures and are passed on from one generation to the next. While some traditions are meaningful and useful, others are outdated and become an obstacle to progress. In this essay, we will consider some of the ways in which traditions can block progress.

One such tradition is the purdah system. While it is uncertain how this tradition began, it is clear that it has no place in modern society. Keeping women hidden away under purdah denies them the benefits of sunlight and fresh air, which can lead to health problems. The purdah system also implies that men are suspicious of their women, which is detrimental to the progress of a community.

Untouchability is another tradition that is prevalent in many countries. It is unfortunate that certain individuals are deemed untouchable and are treated as outcasts in their own society. This tradition is based on the notion that their proximity pollutes water and air. However, such beliefs have no basis in fact and only serve to hinder the progress of a community.

The color bar is a tradition that is still prevalent in some countries. This tradition is based on the notion that some people are superior to others based on the color of their skin. However, such beliefs are unjust and have no basis in reality. The color bar denies colored individuals their legitimate rights and opportunities, which is a significant obstacle to progress.

There are many other examples of harmful traditions and cultures that stand in the way of progress. These traditions must be abandoned if a nation is to advance and develop. It is the responsibility of every generation to evaluate their traditions and decide which ones are worth keeping and which ones must be discarded. Only then can a society progress towards a better future.

In conclusion, while traditions are an essential part of cultures, they can also be an obstacle to progress. The purdah system, untouchability, and the color bar are just a few examples of traditions that are harmful and have no place in modern society. It is time for us to reevaluate our traditions and discard those that are no longer relevant in order to move forward and progress as a society.
