A Thirst Unquenched

In the realm of our domestic abode, we often take certain blessings for granted, failing to grasp their true value until they are stripped away from us. Among these is the unfailing water supply that graces our house.

On occasion, the flow of water meets with disruption, but none compared to the ordeal we endured. The fateful inception of this hardship commenced one morning as we readied ourselves for the day ahead. Every tap, with the exception of one solitary source in the bathroom, connected to a reservoir perched above, lay barren. And so, we were left to wait patiently for our turn to access the only remaining trickle of water.

The true weight of the situation did not descend upon us until evening, when the reservoir above the bathroom relinquished its last drops. In the kitchen, my mother had preserved a small container of water solely for culinary purposes. Alas, this meant none of us could indulge in a refreshing bath or even cleanse our hands. Whatever meager amount of water lingered in small vessels had to be used with the utmost frugality. We became vigilant custodians of every drop, ensuring no wastefulness prevailed.

Come nightfall, a benevolent water-tanker dispatched from the waterworks arrived to our rescue. With gratitude brimming in our hearts, we dashed outside, armed with buckets, eager to collect as much water as our vessels could hold. Soon, our buckets were filled, affording us the luxury of cleansing ourselves that night.

We exercised extreme caution in utilizing the water we had gathered, cognizant of the scarcity we had endured. Wasting even a drop felt like an intolerable transgression.

The following morning dawned, yet the taps remained obstinately dry. Undeterred, we continued to ration the limited water that remained at our disposal.

Finally, at around four in the afternoon, the water supply was reinstated. A triumphant sight met our eyes as rusty water gushed forth from the taps, gradually clearing to its pristine state. The restoration of normal water supply elicited immense relief, filling our hearts with joy and gratitude once more.
