The Urgent Need for Population Control |
|
In view of the explosive growth of the human population on Earth, population
control is undoubtedly necessary. In 1900, the world’s population stood at
around 1.75 billion. By the year 2000, it had surged to over six billion, and
this growth shows no signs of slowing down.
Take a walk in any town or city today and you will see it for yourself—endless
traffic jams, long queues, and overcrowded shopping centers. In such cramped
conditions, it is hardly surprising that accidents, disputes, and friction among
people are so common.
The competition for jobs is fiercer than ever. Back in my grandfather’s time,
someone with just a primary school education could easily find work and earn a
decent living. Secondary education was rare, and those who achieved it were
highly respected. Today, even university graduates struggle to find employment.
Those with only a primary education have almost no chance, except for the most
basic and low-paying jobs. The sheer number of people competing for limited
opportunities has made the job market more challenging than ever.
A growing population means a growing demand for everything—more jobs, more
houses, more cars, more roads—and with that, more problems to solve. The
pressure on the Earth’s resources is greater than at any time in history. Land
is constantly being cleared to build homes for the ever-increasing population.
Forests and jungles are disappearing as humans continue to encroach on natural
spaces, leaving less room for wildlife. Many species have already been driven to
extinction.
As natural habitats vanish, the balance of our global climate begins to shift.
We are already seeing the signs—global warming, rising sea levels, and extreme
weather patterns. Natural disasters now seem to strike without warning, and many
of these changes can be traced back to the unchecked destruction of the
environment.
For most people, life on Earth has become a daily struggle—especially for those
who are not wealthy. People work hard just to survive, if they can find work at
all. Those who fail to secure employment often turn to other means, sometimes
illegal. Crime, whether organized or petty, is now a serious issue faced by
nations around the world.
There is a pressing need to control the growth of the global population or at
least keep it at a sustainable level. Yet, the population continues to rise, and
little seems to be done to address it effectively. If this trend goes on, we may
reach a point where the Earth can no longer support us. The result could be mass
death, perhaps triggered by wars fought over scarce resources, or by large-scale
disasters that our planet can no longer bear.
Of course, there is another possibility—humanity may eventually realize the
dangers and take action to control the population before it is too late. Whether
we choose to act or ignore the warning signs, the future of our species lies in
our own hands. It is up to us to shape our destiny. |
