The Moon Rises over the Sea

All is quiet around. The sun has also withdrawn its final rays. A coolness begins to emerge in the hot air. A gentle breeze brushes over the vast expanse of rippling waves. The ship swims like a big fish in this expansive sea. Suddenly, a round mirror-like moon of red and yellow rises from the sea. At this moment, it does not radiate a brilliant light. It is merely a bright mirror without dazzling splendor. However, a corner of the clear sky is tinted with an apricot hue. Look! Heaven has painted such a beautiful picture! Its impression surpasses all the masterpieces of the mortal realm.

As the round mirror ascends, it diminishes in size, and the red color fades. Before long, it reaches the mid-sky and becomes a bright moon. Above, there is boundless blue sky; below, there is an endless azure sea. Our small solitary boat can be compared to a grain of sand in the vast ocean. Needless to say, the moon disk hanging in the sky remains the same year after year, while we, the travelers, are just temporary passengers on this sea.

To befriend the evening breeze and the bright moon, such delight cannot be described in words. Only those who make the sea their home can truly achieve this companionship with the evening breeze and the bright moon! Although I cannot make the sea my home, being a temporary passenger on the sea is also a fortunate matter.

Since boarding the ship, I have seen the moon over the sea a few times, and the most unforgettable one was the recent night. After dinner, we took a stroll on the deck and suddenly saw a distant red light hanging on a cliff. The red light was not bright. Later, the ship sailed for a while, but the light on the cliff remained in its original place. Did the ship not move? But we clearly saw the ship moving. Eventually, this mystery was unraveled. The red light gradually grew bigger, becoming a round mirror with a black band around its waist. It continued to rise, breaking through the black clouds, reaching the mid-sky. Only then did I realize it was a bright moon, and what I initially mistook for a cliff was layer upon layer of dark clouds.
