It was recess time. The sun was blazing, and the canteen was
packed with students eagerly queuing at the food stalls. After hours of lessons,
everyone was tired and hungry. The delicious aroma of freshly cooked food filled
the air, making mouths water and stomachs growl.
Nora stood in a long line at one of the stalls, patiently waiting her turn. As
she glanced ahead, she noticed her schoolmate, Liming, standing in the same
queue. Just as he reached the front, something odd happened—he suddenly stepped
out of line and walked away without buying anything.
Puzzled, Nora watched him leave, a frown forming on her face. Her curiosity got
the better of her. Why had he walked away empty-handed? She decided to find out.
Leaving the queue, Nora hurried after Liming and gently asked why he didn’t buy
any food. Liming hesitated, then admitted quietly, “I don’t have enough pocket
money today to get a plate of rice.”
Without a second thought, Nora took out her purse and handed him some money.
“Here, now you’ll have enough for lunch too,” she said with a cheerful smile.
Liming looked at her, concerned. “But what about you, Nora? Now you don’t have
enough to eat.”
Nora simply smiled and shook her head. “Don’t worry about me. I’m not that
hungry anyway.”
Liming was deeply touched by her kindness. He thanked her sincerely, grateful
not just for the money, but for the care she had shown.
That evening, Nora told her parents what had happened at school. They beamed
with pride and told her she had done a wonderful thing. "You have a heart of
gold," her mother said warmly. |
