A Boy Who Did Not Keep His Promise

It was Sean's birthday. He looked around painstakingly in search of his best friend, Kenneth. All his friends were there except Kenneth. He was disappointed, especially since Kenneth had promised that he would surely be there for him on his birthday. He decided not to be too impulsive and to wait a little longer. After all, he was not going to cut his cake till later.

Sean waited and waited but Kenneth did not show up. His mother was already pestering him to cut his chocolate birthday cake. What angered Sean was that Kenneth did not even have the decency to call and tell him that he would not be able to make it to his birthday!

The next day at school, Sean approached Kenneth and demanded an explanation. He was so angry that he could not help raising his voice at Kenneth. Everyone around the two boys stopped and stared at them quarrelling. One student actually called for a teacher.

After ten minutes, when Sean was calmer, Kenneth explained that he was at his grandmother's place for dinner the night before. He wanted very badly to to leave to attend Sean's birthday but his grandmother would not let him. However, Kenneth admitted that it was most rude of him not to call. He then asked Sean to forgive him. Sean realised that it was not really Kenneth's fault. He decided to let the matter rest.
