An Embarrassing Incident

It was raining cats and dogs. The roads were slippery. Mohan was on his way back from the shopping centre just two blocks away from his house. If it was not raining so badly, he would take a nice stroll back to his home, but now he thought a bus would be more convenient.

Mohan did not want to risk jaywalking and being caught by the traffic police. He climbed the overhead bridge instead. His black and usually sturdy umbrella swayed with the winds as he walked across the bridge. The rain was beating hard on his umbrella and some rain water was getting onto his spectacles and on his face. He looked to his left and from the corner of his eye, saw the bus approaching the bus-stop. He wiped his wet spectacles with his wet sleeves and looked again. He was right. it was his bus to go home !

Mohan dashed across the remainder of the bridge and down the cement steps. He was near the end of the steps when he slipped. He landed hard on his rear, sliding down the remaining four step. He landed on the ground with a loud thud. His shorts were soaked right through where he sat on the ground. Some people at the bus stop, who saw the whole thing, giggled uncontrollably. Mohan felt a warm blush of embarrassment on his cheeks. He was as red as an apple by the time he got to the bus-stop. One kind soul asked him if he was all right. Mohan nodded.

There was nothing for Mohan to do except to wait for the next bus. He sat there, wet and uncomfortable, on the hard orange plastic seats at the bus-stop. Mohan sighed. everyone has to have an embarrassing incident happen to them at some time or other.
