You received a letter from your good friend and former classmate. He is now studying in another town. He has written to express his doubts about accepting the post of head prefect in his school. Write a letter to encourage him to accept the post.

How are you? It was certainly good to hear from you and to know you are making good progress in school. It is hard to believe that three years have passed since you left for Penang.

So you have been selected as next year's head prefect. That's a good thing. It means your teachers and schoolmates recognize the qualities you have. I can't imagine why you are hesitant about accepting the post. I think you should accept it as I have no doubt that you will do an excellent job.

As I said, you have all the qualities required. Everyone says you are a reliable and responsible person. When you are given something to do, you always carry it out perfectly. Besides, you are friendly and considerate. Almost everybody seems to be your friend. It must be because you always have such a cheerful expression. You seem to be able to attract friends. I do not think you will abuse your position either. You are too honest for that kind of thing. I am sure you will be liked by all the students of the school. In fact, I am convinced that you will be a good role model for them. You are an all-rounder: you excel in your studies and also in sports and other co-curricular activities. I know that you are good at debating and chess. Many students will admire you and want to be like you.

I think I can guess what is bothering you. You are afraid your duties may interfere with your studies especially since you are now in upper secondary. You need to study hard for the SPM. However, I don't think you need to worry. You are a very disciplined and consistent student. You hardly ever procrastinate. Have you ever handed in homework late? I don't think so. You always revise your daily class work and are always ahead of the others in class. Your studies will definitely not be affected.

Barry, I think you will be an excellent head prefect. I am so glad that your school recognizes your potential. Go ahead and take up the challenge. It is a wonderful opportunity. Do let me know how you get on. I always look forward to hearing from you.
