A Farmer's Experiences

Isaac was a farmer who made a living by tending to his farm animals. He had many kinds of animals on his farm, which ranged from sheep to pigs and chickens to horses. Of course, Isaac could never manage all those animals alone, so his whole family of nine sisters and brothers helped to raise the animals and see to the smooth running of the farm.

Living on a farm has its amusing days. Isaac remembered how his youngest brother Milton, once left the tractor's engine running on a gradual slope. When Milton returned to the vehicle, he was shocked to find that it had harvested a strip of raw wheat stalks! That incident made Isaac upset, since such silly mistakes were costly to the farm. The rest of his family found it so amusing that they did not stop teasing Milton about it for the next two weeks! The constant teasing made Isaac smile too and he soon forgave Milton for his carelessness.

Another time, Isaac had a pleasant surprise in the morning. He entered the barn and found that a sow which he favoured had given birth to six piglets. The piglets looked so adorable, suckling at their mother's teat that he spent most of the morning just observing the miracle.

Of course, things that happened on the farm were not all beds of roses. There were frustrations between his sisters and brothers, with some sibling rivalry. There were always arguments on who was to do what and when. But when the rewards came, Isaac felt that it was worth all his time and effort working on the farm.
