The role of parents in fostering love for the nation among
children |
|
In today's fast-paced and challenging world, Malaysia is making its mark as a
developing nation, having gained independence on 31st August 1957. In order to
pay homage to the independence fighters who worked tirelessly to defend the
nation's sovereignty, it is important for each and every member of society to
have a deep love and appreciation for their country. This is where the family
plays a crucial role in instilling a love of nation in their children.
Mothers, in particular, should take the lead by taking their children to
historical places such as museums. In Malaysia, there is a museum called the
National Museum which houses various historical artifacts such as old palace
clothing, traditional weapons used by past leaders to resist foreign invaders.
Children not only learn about the bravery of past leaders, but also about the
courage of their ancestors who sacrificed so much to defend their country. A
prime example of a historical place is the city of Melaka, also known as the
Historic State. Parents can take their children to places like Stadhyus, which
was built by foreign invaders who once colonized Malaysia. This serves as a way
to cultivate love for the country in children.
In addition to visiting historical places, parents should also lead by example.
The proverb “Like father, like son” holds true in this context as well. Parents
should be role models for their children in demonstrating their love for the
country. They should avoid actions that contradict the spirit of patriotism,
such as making fun of the national anthem, or disrespecting the national flag.
Instead, parents should proudly display the Jalur Gemilang, the national flag,
as a symbol of love for the country. Children will naturally follow suit and
understand the importance of being patriotic. Parents can also share stories of
the struggles of national leaders who fought and sacrificed so much to defend
their beloved country from foreign invaders.
In conclusion, the family plays a vital role in fostering love for the nation
among children. Parents should take the lead by visiting historical places and
serving as role models to their children. They should share stories of the
struggles of national leaders and display symbols of national pride such as the
Jalur Gemilang. With love for the country instilled in the hearts of the younger
generation, Malaysia will continue to thrive and progress, just as it has done
since independence. |
